At the end of last week, after updating my operating system to OS X10.11.6, the gmail chat disconnects after a few minutes of inactivity when using Safari. Every time that I go back to the tab, the chat becomes disconnected (But if the tab is not the one that is "active", the chat disconnects). Has anyone else had this problem, and if so, is there a fix that has been successful?

The inactivity does not happen on the Firefox browser, only on the Safari browser. If I have Gchat open in two windows and inactive for the same amount of time, it is only the Safari browser that has disconnected Gchat.

I'm still having this problem where Google chat becomes inactive in Safari (but not other browsers), if the tab is inactive.
Is anyone else having this problem? Any ideas for a fix?
I am seeing this as well. The issue persists in 10.12.1 public beta 2 with Safari 10.0.1.
I am having the same problem.
Affected: Safari 10.0 (11602.1.50.0.10), Safari 10.0.1 (11602.2.14.0.7), Safari Technology Preview Release 16 (Safari 10.1, WebKit 11603.1.10) on both OS X 10.11.6, macOS 10.12, and macOS 10.12.1 (16B2555).
Not affected: Safari 9.
